Well, about a month ago, I wrote a journal about how my external drive died. What I was way to pissed to write about here was that exactly one week after the external died, my primary hard drive flipped me off, too. After a month of nonsense, however, I actually found a legitimate way to recover my files from both drives! Long story short, I downloaded a free iso, burned it to a DVD, and then voila! I had a live disk of Linux, and on that issue of Linux, known as Knoppix, there were nice little goodies that came with it that REALLY saved the day. Twice.
If anyone has any dead drive that still show up on on their computer, but can't be accessed for whatever reason, please look into a site called cgsecuirty.org
www.cgsecurity.orgAnd look up their pages on TestDisk (program that I think works best), PhotoRec, and ddrescue. Also for ddrescue, look up the page listed as Damaged Hard Disk. On that page, the Knoppix live cd will also be explained in greater detail. The most amazing part about all this, it's ALL FREE! The only money I spent was on my two new (and bigger) hard drives. Not a single penny spent on data recovery gurus.
On a slightly more annoyed note...
If there is one thing I don't like is when I commission an artist, and after a month of nothing in the way of communication from him, I decide to message him on both his dA accounts, and his email. However, he actually blatantly ignores me. Understanding that he recently had a nice family development, and he may not be able to work on the commissions, that fact doesn't hinder your ability to tell your customer that in a nice, simple email or message. And what's the most annoying is that this certain foot/nylon fetish artist isn't only artist to have done this. It seems like the idea of at the very least letting the guy paying you almost $100 know if there is a minor problem or delay. I would understand. That's fine. I'm not expecting superhuman work exactly a day after I give you the details. But after a month, of silence, it just seems courteous at the absolute least to simply respond to any one of the three messages left for you.
Anyway, wild rant aside, I'm happy to have gotten some important .psd and .png files back, so now I can work on some more things again.
